Take a Minute to Talk About It: Liver Disease Featuring Dr. Clark Kulig & Dr. Ben Vernon

– Hello, my name is Ricky Santo
and I am a cancer survivor. February is National
Cancer Prevention Month. We’re here at Presbyterian/St.
Luke’s Medical Center to bring you the latest
tips for cancer prevention. So let’s take a minute to talk about it. (piano music) – To help prevent liver cancer
one of the most important things is just getting a
scan done every six months. For people with cirrhosis that
could be any number of causes such as alcohol, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, fatty liver disease is a very
common cause of liver disease now in the United States. Approximately 20-40% of adults
have fatty liver disease as Americans have gotten
more round in the middle. Previously a lot of the ways
to understand if there’s scarring of the liver was a liver biopsy. One of the new technologies
in liver disease that’s been really helpful for our patients
is called Elastography, Understanding the stiffness of the liver. – We’re very excited about this
technology because it really epitomizes a lot of the elements
of quality in patient care. We’re looking for care that’s
safe, timely, effective, efficient, centered around the patient, and available to everybody. And this fulfills all of those criteria. – From all of us here at Presbyterian/ St. Luke’s Medical Center,
take a minute to talk about it. It could help save your life. (gentle music)
