Can Constipation Cause Back Pain On One Side?

Greetings. Eric Bakker, Naturopath. Thanks for coming back. I have an interesting question here from a
subscriber. Can constipation cause back pain on one side? Yes, it can. Constipation, if you haven’t been going to
bathroom for several days, can cause abdominal pain anywhere in the front. You can also get pain on the sides. You can get pain on the back, but it could
also be kidney pain. It’s common, if you’ve got pain on the flank
there, just off to the side of the spine on one side and it feels like a low, dull, aching
sensation, it could well be kidney playing up. Kidneys can often play up with bad constipation,
because kidneys are also elimination organs. If the bowels are not working properly, the
kidney is going to get a whack, so it may be a kidney problem. My recommendation, if you’ve got pain like
this on one side, is to go straight to the doctor and get checked out. It’s important to have a blood test and to
be checked out, that you haven’t got any serious constipation that requires medical intervention. Whenever you have a pain, it’s a warning that
something is not right. Like your car, you’ve got lights flashing
on your dash, and you have to act on it straight away, otherwise, you could be up for a big
repair bill. Well, in this case, we could be in for an
even bigger repair bill. We might have to go to a surgeon. It could be a major repair bill. So, pain can often be attributed to constipation. Yes, I’ve seen this many times. But remember, it could also be related to
a kidney problem. In that case, any kind of pain that goes on
for more than a day or so, several days, you need to go and get some medical attention. Thanks for the question.
