Benidorm Jet2 fear as Brit family plagued with sickness ‘I have PTSD’

HOLIDAYMAKERS Sally Ellis and her daughter Lizzie had been looking forward to a £7,000 dream week away to Benidorm Sally had even paid extra to make sure children Ronan, 19, Jessica, 15, Charlie 13, Oliver, 10, Lilly Beth, 4, and Dolly, 12 months, had access to the Tropical Magic Splash Resort’s water park Unfortunately, the dream Jet2 holiday Sally, Lizzie and their partners had planned, was far from perfect The family endured a wave of sickness, were allegedly attacked in the pool by unruly customers and watched on as a cleaner used the same mop she had “mopped up sick” with to clean a handrail Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Sally, from Birmingham, described the “vile” holiday her family endured which has left them refusing to ever go abroad again Sally, 51, said: “The trouble began about eight weeks before we were due to fly, when I saw comments on Trip Advisor saying that there was a stomach bug in the hotel “It wasn’t just one comment, there were quite a few people saying they’ve got sickness and diarrhoea and that they’ve reported it to Jet 2 “I called Jet2 and asked about the reports because I have a 21-year-old who is quite vulnerable, he’s got autism, chronic asthma and allergies Last time he was sick, it resulted in him having a massive asthma attack and it was a risk I didn’t want to take “I explained the situation to Jet2 and let them know we had someone vulnerable in our party and customer service told me there wasn’t a problem and I agreed to watch and wait to see if there were any other reports ” Following advice from Jet2, Sally watched the comments on Trip Advisor over the next two weeks Sally said there wasn’t any reports at first, but reports of sickness from holidaying Brits started appearing on the site She said: “For a couple weeks there weren’t any more reports and then people started commenting again so I phoned Jet2 who tried to tell me there wasn’t a problem, but eventually they admitted that yes, they have had a sickness bug at the hotel and they were going to sanction the hotel “ At the same time, Jet 2 said they had it under control and it was just one floor and again, advised me to watch and wait “I left it a couple weeks again, and there were no reports, but once again they started flooding in ” Concerned about her family, Sally called Jet2 once more before the holiday but was advised once again to watch reports and wait She said: “I called Jet 2 again and I said I wanted a full refund or to change the holiday, and I was offered to change but on the condition I paid extra “I’m not being funny but this was four weeks before the holiday, I had paid £7,000 in total for the holiday and the other water parks were now £10,000 – £11,000 – I don’t have that money “I was told I had to pay it or not go, eventually the advisor said to watch and wait again as there hadn’t been any new reports ” Sadly for the family of 12, the dream holiday took a turn from the moment they arrived in Benidorm Sally told us: “Like most, we had booked this months and months in advanced and I had asked because there is a vulnerable party member, we needed three rooms together “I told Jet2 my son has allergies and has autism so he can’t administer his own epipen and my other son, who also has autism, was being looked after by my daughter I needed to be close to them both but they put us all on different floors.” Once again, Sally called Jet2 who told her the company states room allocations can’t be confirmed and nothing could be done The furious mum told us that by day three, the family had been struck down by the stomach bug She said: “Day three, my grandson started chucking up, then two of my other children started chucking up, and I went straight to Vanessa the Jet2 rep, straight to reception and said two members of the party have a sickness bug “The receptionist said well I’m shocked, this is the fist time we’ve had reports in weeks and weeks “But I don’t believe that, my son went to get some food and had a chicken fillet and it had pink lines in it The next night, we went down, he had a pork steak and it was pink on the inside and then in the morning we went down and we had sausages and the sausages were pink too “In the end we only ate desserts, you know salads and stuff and most of the time we lived on chip rolls because that’s what we felt safe eating ” The family took pictures of the food, and alerted Jet2 to the nightmare but have since been told nothing can be done since those affected didn’t seek medical attention Sally said: “I am distraught and every time I think about it I just want to cry, I’m really emotional about it and from day three I just wanted to go home “I feel let down by Jet2 because when I spoke to them on the phone before I went she made out we would have a fantastic time, it was all under control and not to worry so I feel let down more than anything ” As well as the sickness, the Ellis family had their holiday disturbed by an unruly family who allegedly hit one of the boys with a wooden plank and threatened the children Sally also said claimed some members of the family called one of her boys a f***ot The disheartened mum said: “At the beginning of the holiday, there was a group of people below our balcony who were fighting, smashing glasses and swearing “I phoned down to reception and I was told they would send security, but no security came, it was like they were scare of them because there was so many people and didn’t want to deal with it “My son had a ball his dad bought him and then the group of boys asked him whether he stole it from then, he said no and the boys told him I’m going to f*****g batter you “He was terrified, and then half an hour later the boys knocked on my door and said open up the door you f***ot “I spoke to Jet 2 – the kids were terrified, we were all sick and I asked to go home and they said yes you can but you would have to pay £159 I said to them I’m not being funny but I just don’t have that money so we had to stay I was in tears. “We had to prepare the kids with autism weeks and weeks before with pictures and photos, we have to, and in the end the one with allergies just didn’t leave his room He refused to come out of his room and spent the holiday staring at his phone.” On the day the family were due to leave, another member of the party became sick and spent the flight home throwing up “The holiday was my biggest fear, I was going on holiday and getting a sickness bug is the last thing you want to do I won’t be going abroad again, it’s put me off so much, I feel let down. I just wouldn’t want to risk it, why would I go on holiday to be at risk? We’ll go to Cornwall or something like that “I’ve spoken to my daughter since we’ve got back and we all feel totally drained, my heads fuzzy, I feel stressed, every time I think about the holiday I almost have a panic attack I can’t help but think about what a vile holiday it was and my daughter feels the same “I know this sounds silly but I feel like I have PTSD because every time I think about it I can’t think of how we had such a vile time we had ” A Jet2 Spokesman said: “We are sorry to hear about these issues. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to us, so we are currently investigating with our hotels ” Daily Star Online asked Jet2 if they would like to comment on the specific allegations and a spokesman said: “No comment ”
